Why Create a Wildflower Meadow?

Pollinator Friendly

Native wildflower mixes attract bees, butterflies and beneficial insects to your garden, supporting local biodiversity.

100% Native Species

Our seed mixes contain only species native or naturalised to the UK — the right plants for British wildlife and soil conditions.

Low Maintenance

Once established, a wildflower meadow needs only one or two cuts per year — far less work than a traditional lawn.

Drought Tolerant

Native wildflowers are adapted to UK conditions and typically require no watering once established in the first season.

Our Wildflower Seed Range

Native UK wildflower mixes for gardens, meadows, roadsides, restoration projects and amenity planting schemes.

UK Wildflower Sowing Calendar

Timing and site preparation are the two biggest factors in a successful wildflower meadow.

🌸

Spring

Mar – May

Sow after the last frost risk has passed. Prepare a bare, weed-free seedbed. Spring-sown annuals will flower by summer. Perennials establish roots this year and flower from year two.

🌻

Summer

Jun – Aug

Avoid sowing in peak summer heat unless you can water regularly. Late summer (Aug) is excellent for autumn sowing — soil is warm and weed competition drops.

🍂

Autumn

Aug – Oct

The preferred time for most perennial wildflower mixes. Seeds stratify naturally over winter and germinate strongly in spring. Excellent for native grasses too.

❄️

Winter

Nov – Feb

Dormant sowing on bare ground is possible in mild spells. Seed lies dormant until spring temperatures trigger germination — a traditional country practice.

Native Wildflower Seeds — Supplied by Ransley Pro Grow Since 1951

Creating a wildflower meadow is one of the most impactful things a landowner or gardener can do for UK biodiversity. Ransley Pro Grow has been supplying wildflower seed to conservation bodies, landscape architects, local authorities, country estates and home gardeners since 1951 — and our range has grown to reflect the full breadth of British habitats and planting styles.

Our annual cornfield mixes are built around traditional arable wildflowers — field poppies, cornflowers, corn chamomile and corn marigold — that deliver a high-impact first-year display from a spring or autumn sowing. Fast-growing and visually dramatic, these are ideal for event spaces, temporary schemes and areas where quick results matter.

For more enduring planting, our native perennial blends include ox-eye daisy, common knapweed, field scabious, wild carrot, ragged robin, betony and many more. These take a full growing season to establish roots before flowering in year two, then self-seed and naturalise with minimal management.

Every seed mix in our catalogue contains only species native or long-naturalised to the British Isles — no neophyte exotics, no double-flowered cultivars that pollinators cannot access. Just genuine wildflowers, responsibly sourced and properly labelled. Fast nationwide delivery on all orders.
